
Overgrown weeds (mostly bittersweet) between the deer enclosure perimeter fence and the barrier fence.
Disgusting substance of the day: the responsibility of euthanising a fledgling oriole (fell out of its nest, bleeding internally).
On this day in 365 Urban species: Pond slider. We saw tons of these on our most recent Urban Nature Walk; I definitely think they are breeding in Boston.
Oh, sure, it's really my only day off, and I have stuff to do, but now I would like to continue putting it off, this time with my traditional Monday picspam. The theme is yet more interesting wildlife I found at work, a lot of which I don't know what it is.

This is an audio recording of my favorite bird song. The wood thrush sings his song well-concealed in the forest. This year I've heard a couple in the city park near our house, which is pretty awesome. I made this recording by taking a video of the woods outside of the deer enclosure. As usual, I never saw the bird. Other birdsong can be heard in the recording, but the wood thrush is the loudest, and last call heard,

This is what I found when I got to work today: the deer enclosure pond, half covered by new ice.
