Reader Participation Music Meme

dude

1. Name a genre, subgenre, kind, or style of music, and I'll tell you my five favorite artists or albums in that category.

Then, you recommend another one to me!

(I'm bored of the songs on my iPod and I want some well-directed suggestions.) Thanks in advance! And pass this meme on, that's what it's for, plus you might get some good suggestions for yourself. It would also work for movies, books, almost anything, I guess.

Example: You comment with "classic rock." I reply "The Beatles, The Kinks, The Who, David Bowie, Queen." You reply to me "Hey, you should get the Las Vegas Circus Soundtrack that's all new mixes of Beatles songs!" (I already have it, but this is just an example._

I'm flattered that you think I would know anything about this genre. Perhaps you could recommend something for beginners?

Pre-1994 Grunge

Nice.
1. Nirvana Nevermind
2. Nirvana In Utero
3. Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
4. Nirvana Bleach
5. The Fluid Purplemetalflakemusic

I was never a fan of the Pearl Jam/Mother Love Bone/Green River/Temple of the Dog/Alice in Chains type of stuff.

I consider Soundgarden to be a metal band, frequently misclassified as grunge. (and I'm a fan of theirs)

I didn't need you to be more specific! The only baroque I know is JS Bach. Broadening that a little (to include things I've heard of):

1. Fur Elise
2. Moonlight Sonata
3. Rites of Spring
4. The Four Seasons
5. Other stuff I might have heard on the Cosmos Soundtrack.
