Preparing the PM diet for the mystery animals!

Which I can tell you now are red river hogs. Hopefully I can get some publishable pics of them soon.

Red river hogs are cute. How do they smell? (I mean, what is your olfactory evaluation of them and their environment, not "they smell with their noses". ^_^)

I find their odor to be fairly pleasant. The whole hospital has that hayish barn smell in the morning. They defecate along one wall consistently, and it's easy to deal with. Like all hoofstock kept on concrete, their urine will puddle and get rank if anyone does a half-assed job of cleaning the stall.

Thus I gather that they don't smell like domestic swine, or if they do, it's a few magnitudes less pronounced. Latrine preferences in captive ungulates are usually a plus. ^_^

Thanks!

They seem to defecate less--or perhaps just more consistently in one place--than our (domestic) Guinea hogs.

Yes, as much as I like bongos, they are less selective, and urinate by the gallon.
